Barbie Beach Party Planning, Ideas, Fun History Facts

Barbie® in a Mermaid Tale™ Beach Barbie doll
Image by Charles (dollstuff.net) via Flickr

Since the time she was released by Mattel in the late 1950s, Barbie has been a favorite among little girls. That’s why a Barbie Beach Party is a perfect idea for any young girl.

Guests are invited to bring their favorite Barbie and come to a Barbie Beach (or pool) Party. Beach party decorations can be a lot of fun. Using lots of pinks, purples, and other pastel colored balloons, a good sized wading pool where both guests and their Barbie dolls can splash around, and of course beach towels to lounge around on is the perfect solution to decorating.

Beach balls that can be kicked around add to the fun. Of course, besides a sunny day, the most important component of a Barbie Beach Party will be having plenty of sun screen on hand to keep young guests from getting sunburned.

After a dip in the pool, guests may enjoy doing something super easy yet crafty like making their own body glitter, stringing together a beaded necklace, or creating a jeweled picture frame or hair barrette. Another fun game would include having a Barbie Dress Up Relay.

Each guest will then take the bag of adult -sized clothes (in the form of costumes Barbie has been famous for wearing), and as it becomes their turn, the guest will grab the bag, put the clothes on over their own, run around the relay course, come back, take the clothes off and stuff them back into the bag (a shopping bag would be perfect because we know Barbie must LOVE to shop!) and hand it to the next team mate in line. The first team to have each guest complete the relay wins.

Finish the party with a nice luncheon of finger sandwiches and sherbet floats and this will be a Barbie party that everyone will enjoy.

Birthday Invitation Wording

Marissa's 2nd Birthday Invitation

Your birthday invitation wording is key to letting your guests know the who, what, where, when and why of your birthday party. This all comes into play once you’ve selected your birthday party invitations and any themes for the party as well as accompanying birthday invitation phrases based on that theme. For information on birthday invitation phrases and matching themes, check out our article titled Birthday Invitation Phrases. This article will give you many ideas about picking a theme with invitation cards to match and coming up with creative and unique invitation phrases.

The wordings for your birthday invitation cards will typically follow a simple structure. First, your creative phrase or verse, followed by all the information needed to let your guests know where and when. You should include the exact address of the party, whether it be at your home or the local pool, and should also include the time everyone should arrive. You can include a contact number for your guests to R.S.V.P. if you wish them to do so.

So you’ve got your invitations picked out and a clever verse to put on them. Lets say you’ve selected our Fun Bubbles Party Invitation and you’re having your party at home. Your birthday invitation wording would look something like this:

“Come join the party, come join in the fun
It’s a bubble party for our number one son!
Cody is turning eight!
Come help us celebrate!
Saturday, June 14th at 11:30 PM
At our home
2020 S. Cromwell
York, PA
Please RSVP to Julie
(222) 789-1234″

Let’s say you’ve selected our Hoo Hoo Owl Birthday Invitation and you’re having your party at a local park. Your birthday invitation wording would look something like this:

“Our little girl is turning nine
Out in the sun, it’s party time!
Come join the celebration!
Saturday, May 16th at 4:00 PM
At Liberty Park
On Franklin St. between 3rd and 4th ave.
Salt Lake City, NV
Please RSVP to James
(801) 998-8888″

You’ve got the who, what, where, when and why all covered. If you’re inviting people who don’t live in town, it would be a good idea to include a map with directions along with a contact number for them to call in case they get lost.

As the birthday celebrant gets older, or if the birthday party is in a more formal setting, you may want to exclude a creative birthday phrase, instead opting for just the information wording. Either way, your birthday invitation wording should convey all the information necessary for your guests.

6 Fun and Innovative Twilight Party Games

General No Comments »
New Moon Movie Stills - NEW
Image by twilight foxdie via Flickr

Twi-Hards everywhere were looking forward to the day when New Moon was in movie theaters worldwide. This movie has become particularly popular because of the success of the first film.

With the addition of veteran actors like Dakota Fanning and Michael Sheen, the expectations for the sequel to Twilight are very high.

One way that fans will be showing their enthusiasm is by hosting their own Twilight parties. If you are a fan planning a party of your own, you know that it is something that many of your friends have already planned to do. So it becomes important to set your party apart from all the rest with something special. Something that you can do is to have entertaining Twilight party games. Here are some interesting ones you can play at your party.

While we can’t move at super human speeds like vampires one thing you can do is play a game of flashlight tag. The blur of light will make players look like they are moving really fast. This is a great game to play at night. Make sure that area where you play is clear and safe so that there will no danger of anyone hurting themselves in the dark. Also make sure that everyone playing has a flashlight. Make them great party favors by having them have Twilight decals or stickers.

Another game that will test the reflexes of guests is musical chairs. It might seem like a childish game to play at a party, but just having a good time and getting everyone competitive with the right amount of style, will allow you to pull it off. For the music play songs from the Twilight playlist.

You can play a New Moon Concentration game. Draw up a list of every character in New Moon and whether they are vampire, human, or werewolf. Then have a memory contest where guests have to recite the list of characters exactly as you say it adding a new character with each round. The person that lasts until the final round will be the winner.

You can also have bobbing for apples. Rather than just having everyone try to get the apples with their own teeth, have them wear fake vampire fangs while they are doing it. This is a great idea because wearing the fangs will make the game more challenging and fun.

You can play a Twilight version of Blind Man’s Bluff. Vampires in New Moon are excellent trackers. Pick someone to be a tracker and blind fold them. Then the “tracker” has to find as many guests in the party as possible using all of their remaining senses to do so. This will be a fun game for everyone as they try to avoid getting caught.

A true Twi-Hard knows their trivia. Have guests play a game of Twilight Jeopardy. Have question based on the Series. Try to make it interesting by including little known facts and trivia that only devoted fans of the series would be able to know.

These are just some of the many games you can play at your party make sure to take advantage of these in order to provide some great entertainment for your guests. This will help to make your event a unique and unforgettable experience.

If you are hosting a Twilight party and looking for Twilight party favors and Twilight party supplies, E-WeddingFavors.com has the biggest selection of unique Twilight party favors, supplies and much more. These products are one of a kind and are all at a very affordable prices at or around $1 or $2.

Tips When Hosting Your New Year’s Eve Party

New Years Eve Party

There is nothing quite like the excitement of planning a New Years Eve party. It is surely going to be a memorable event no matter if you are celebrating at party venues in London or in the comfort of your own home. There are a few things to keep in mind when planning your party and if you get a head start on the preparations, then you will save yourself a lot of headaches and stress later down the line.

A New Years Eve party is not complete without a guest list. Keep in mind that many people make their plans for this special occasion several weeks or even months in advance. The city venues on this special day play an important factor as well.

Some cities have very elaborate fireworks displays and New Years Eve hotel deals that require people to register very early. When planning a party in the comfort of your home, you will want to send out the invitations, at a minimum, the first week of December.

Yes, this is a time of year when most people are sending out greeting cards, but you want to plan your guest list early. Always include an RSVP card and follow up with phone calls and emails to confirm attendance.

The next step to planning your New Years Eve party is deciding on if you will have a theme. Some people enjoy having theme or masquerade parties. It adds a festive quality to the special event of ringing in a brand new year. Besides the idea of a theme party, you will also need to determine if you will be serving alcohol.

If there is alcohol served, then you want to either arrange for guests to stay the night or arrange for taxi service. The most important factor is never allowing a person to drive when they have consumed an alcoholic beverage. This should be a time for festivities, not tragedies.

Keep the menu simple. Everyone should have fun and this includes you. Finger foods are an excellent way to allow guests to mingle and have scrumptious appetizers that do not require sitting down to eat.

Most parties include alcohol, but you also want to provide plenty of non-alcoholic drinks for those who are designated drivers or do not believe in imbibing. Travel New Years Eve is about arriving safe and sound, so once again, make sure there are designated drivers or sleeping arrangements for people who will be staying with you. This factor cannot be reiterated enough.

New Years Eve is a big event. The New Year’s ball in Times Square will be making its drop. It is a brand new ball that will slowly show the world that New York has jumped into the New Year. Others will follow and even within your home New Years Eve party, merrymaking will be occurring as people blow their horns, twirl their tassels and get ready to greet the New Year.

New Years Eve Party Ideas - Throw a Rockin’ New Year’s Eve Party

General No Comments »
umair shuaib.

Traditionally, New Years Eve parties were focused on couples only. Fortunately, not anymore! It is also not as exclusively formal as in previous decades. It is much more common to include the whole family and singles in the celebration as well. Alcohol, no alcohol, anything and everything goes these days.

Decorate with black, silver, and gold. Go all out with feather boas and top hats. Don’t forget the noisemakers and party poppers to bring in the New Year.

Here are some fun activity ideas to bring in the New Year:

  • Resolutions Roast. Give each guest a turn roast their resolution for 2006. It is usually related to some sort of weight loss or self-improvement idea. For example, say “goodbye (name) and hello to a lighter, tighter me!”
  • Costume or masquerade party. Don a mask and be a lady or gent of mystery!
  • New Years around the world. Have guests bring dishes that reflect their ethnicities and countries of origin.
  • Murder mystery party. Purchase murder mystery scripts or use a local murder mystery company to host the event.
  • Create a time capsule to be opened in five years. Include some of 2005 items and a questionnaire about what they think it will be in 2010. Make a video of the party to include in her time capsule.
  • Board games or card game championships
  • Take a day cruise on a local body of water.
  • Hire a bellydancer or salsa dancer to give lessons and give the guests a little spice for in their lives. Everyone will have a good laugh as they try out their new skills!
  • Hold a couple’s party and play the Newlywed Game to see who’s most in tune with each other.
  • Gambling on a winner? Choose a casino night for an easy to put together bachelorette party.
  • Is a happy and prosperous year in the cards? Use a fortune telling theme complete with palm readings and crystal balls.
  • Go out dancing at the host’s favorite club.

Drop balloons at midnight and toast your friends and family!

Twilight Birthday Party - New Moon Birthday Party

General No Comments »
New Moon (novel)
Image via Wikipedia

The Twilight book series by Stephanie Meyer have been a huge success with tween and teen girls. What better way to celebrate the birthday than a New Moon or Twilight themed party? Here are some ideas to make it happen.

First, you will need cool party invitations . You can print off color copies of the book covers, characters or posters from the movie to use on the front of your handmade invitations. Using your computer fonts, you can either write the invitation in calligraphy style handwriting like Edward would use:

The Cullen family cordially invites you to attend a party in the honour of

(Try a font called Edwardian script)

Alternatively, you can use a handwritten scrawl like Bella would write to inform your guests as to place and time. An example would be:

OK - I really hate parties, but Alice is making me invite everyone

One additional possibility would be to write it like Jacob - crossing out lines and re-writing them until you get the invitation right.

For instance - you could write:

The bloodsucker invites you to

The leech is having a party for…

Bring a jacket - it will be cold

You will need to decide if it is a general Twilight/New Moon party theme - or if guests choose/are put on teams. You can have team Edward vs. Team Jacob.

Next, you will need party food . You can offer guests ‘blood’ to drink, but putting tomato juice in a non-transparent cup with a straw. You could also make a red fruit punch - add extra ice before guests come so it is extra cold or slushy. Hot dogs would be good - roasting them like on the beach in La Push - would be even better. Make cookies that look like dog biscuits.

Decorations. You can make them ahead of time, or have everyone participate. You can let everyone design posters, and have prizes for the best ones. If you want to make the decorations yourself, let everyone make their own t-shirt, which can be their ‘loot-bag’ take home gift.

Posters and t-shirts could read:

  • Team Jacob
  • Team Edward
  • Team Cullen Fastball
  • La Push Diving Team
  • Forks, WA
  • Meanwhile, in a little known town called Spoons…
  • Cullen Drive
  • My neck belongs to Edward
  • Bite Me - Edward Cullen
  • Jacob Can Be My Alpha
  • I was pale before Twilight made it popular
  • Who’s Afraid of the Big Bad Wolf? (Jacob)
  • I like my guys cool and sparkly
  • La Push Motorcycle Club

Guests can also make up their own ideas. Have plenty of markers, paint or fabric paint, sparkles, gel pens, etc. It is a good idea to have scrap paper so kids can make a rough copy before they do their good one.

Activities . Kids can learn vampire hip hop dances, play truth or dare, or Twilight trivia. Having them dress up or act out their favourite scenes from the movies or books. You can video tape the enactments and play them back at the end of the night, or send them home with a copy on DVD.

New Year’s Eve Decorating Ideas

General No Comments »
new year FUN

Make decorating your home for New Year’s Eve party a pleasure instead of a stressful nightmare. Organization and planning helps you keep on top of your New Year’s Eve party.

Create a gorgeous party planning notebook with an inexpensive plastic three-ring binder that has a space to insert an inspirational picture. Keep cutouts from magazines of ideas you love about decorating, themes, menus, and recipes. Keep notes about your party afterwards so you remember what worked well and what to do differently next year. Your personal party journal will be an invaluable assistant to help you avoid holiday stress.

New Year’s Eve Decorating

Enjoy your home decorating for New Year’s Eve. Don’t try to do too much. Keep in mind that people love to come to homes decked out in festive array but that it doesn’t take a lot of cluttering ornamentation to create a joy filled room. Just a few large decorations can add the desired impact without taking a lot of time to set out. Plus, too many little decorations get lost when you have many people standing around.

Where to decorate for impact:

1. Your front walkway: Greet guests at the entrance with lights surrounding your front door and two large floral arrangements or evergreen trees.

2. Your front door: A large swag of evergreen decorated with nuts, apples, raffia, and ribbon spiced up with cinnamon sticks and cloves makes a different statement than the usual wreath.

3. Your dining table: If you plan a sit-down dinner, avoid tall centerpieces that interfere with guests seeing across the table. White table cloths reflect the light, add a feeling of elegance, and don’t interfere with colored china. Bold colors add drama. Have fun with your table decorations.

4. Look up: Because table decorations get in the way, add decorations above archways and doors.

5. Your powder room: Because guests use this room privately, they take the time to look around and notice decorations.

If your TV looks like a black hole in your room when it’s off, play an old black and white classic movie with the sound turned off.

Enjoy your New Year’s Eve decorating this year. Try some new ideas and keep a party planner for next year. You’ll be ready for new holiday decorating ideas!

New Years Eve Party Ideas for Family Parties

General No Comments »
Nelsons New Years Eve Party

New Years Eve is always an exciting night so I thought I would give you a couple of New Years Eve party ideas for family parties. As I mentioned on Martha Stewart Living radio yesterday, with the current economic climate continually changing, we now, more than ever, are examining our spending habits with more care and consideration. Therefore, this New Years Eve, make it a family celebration and include the entire family when entertaining with your friends.

New Years Eve party ideas include having friends over for a potluck dinner and for your guests to enjoy and participate in, Guess Whose Baby Picture and family favorite board games could serve as the evening’s entertainment for a family celebration.

As I mentioned on radio, since we are talking about family parties, keep it simple and casual. Call the party time for early evening, request casual dress and create a menu complete with easy-to-make food items or fresh ready-served food that is easy to pick up at the market or deli.

Keep costs in check. Limit your guest list and ask guests to participate in a pot-luck dinner. Avoid duplicate food selections by tagging each family unit with the food item they need to bring. Spend more time with your guests at this family celebration and less time cleaning up by making sure your guests bring their assigned menu selections in ready-to-serve containers.

New Years Eve party ideas include the Guess Whose Baby Picture game. Simply ask each guest to bring theirs’ and their children’s infant pictures. Then randomly tape the pictures up on a board and hand out paper and pens. Each family plays as a team and the family who guesses the most correct pictures, wins a prize. For family parties, the prize could be anything from a gift certificate to a family-styled restaurant, movie tickets or a gift-card from the local market or video store.

A second family celebration oriented entertainment suggestion is to turn New Years Eve into family game night. For family parties, ask each family to bring a couple of their favorite board games such as Scrabble, Monopoly, Sorry!, Candyland, Barrel of Monkeys or Chutes and Ladders. For a more challenging time, try Trivial Pursuit, Jeopardy Board Game, Wheel of Fortune or a jigsaw puzzle. For puzzle parties, set a time limit. The family who completes or is closet to completing the puzzle in the least amount of time wins.

Your New Years Eve party ideas should include a family celebration dinner menu. For family parties especially, I recommend menu items that are filling, fun, kid-friendly and easy to eat. Again make sure your menu selection is easy to prepare or can be picked up at the local market ready-to-go.

Finally, select menu items from all food groups, avoid known allergens such as nuts and whenever possible, create a menu that allows guests gluten-free food selections too.

I hope you found these New Years Eve party ideas helpful for your family celebration. New Years Eve is a great time to host family parties and what better way to celebrate the New Year than with your family. Plan an Overnight New Years Eve Party for Children

General No Comments »
Scrambled eggs
Image via Wikipedia

Even though New Years Eve is thought of as an adult party night, children can take part in ringing in the New Year! Plan an overnight New Years Eve Party for children. This party is simple and easy enough to plan at the last minute. Start with making a list of guests such as neighborhood children or classmates.

Next enlist the children in making invitations to send or give out to their friends. Make a simple invitation in the shape of a clock marked at midnight or one with lots of streamers and glitter decorated on it. List the important information such as time to arrive and time to be picked up in the morning. Most importantly, list items to bring to the overnight party such as toothbrush, pajamas, sleeping bag and pillow.

Decorations for this New Years Eve party for children can be as simple as using lots of streamers, confetti, and balloons. Use lots of balloons gathered into a net from the ceiling for a balloon drop at midnight. Pick up noisemakers and New Years Eve hats to add to the festivities.

After the children arrive serve finger-food snacks set up buffet style or have a baked potato bar with all the fixings. Serve fancy cupcakes sprinkled with candy confetti. Play group games such as Twister, Charades and Pictionary while waiting for the stroke of midnight. Children will enjoy watching the countdown to midnight and the New York Times Square ball drop on television.

In the morning, serve a breakfast buffet with simple foods such as sausage-in-a-blanket made with link sausage wrapped in a refrigerator biscuit. Bagels, muffins, scrambled eggs with cheese, cut-up fruit, juice and milk completes your buffet. If there is time after breakfast, discuss ideas for New Years resolutions that children can make such as:

  • Wear a helmet when riding their bike.
  • Completing and turning in homework on time.
  • Help with chores without being reminded.
  • Eat the required fruits and vegetables each day.

Give each child a 3” x 5” index card to write down their resolution to take home and post up in their room. Plus send each child home with a treat bag. Ideas for the treat bag could include little toys, cards, pencils and a small calendar for the New Year. Your New Years Eve party for children will be a hit!
