Your New Years Eve Questions Answered

The Christmas holiday is over and with it a sense of relief. You dashed around and finished all of your shopping on time. The holiday gatherings are over and the food has been eaten.

You should have an immense sense of relief but there is always that nagging sensation of being let down. Perhaps it is time to take some recreational fun for you and your loved ones. New Years Eve is one of the biggest party days of the year.

Adults around the world celebrate the end of the old year and the beginning of the New Year. Small, intimate gatherings or large celebrations bring out the party animal in us all. There are plenty of places to visit on this special night each year and it can all seem confusing if you attempt to do this at the last minute.

You may be the club sort or simply want to host your own New Years Eve party. The choices are endless and can be anything you want it to be. If you are unsure of what to do on New Years Eve, this article is for you. You can get ideas on what to do to ring in the New Year in style.

What is the history of New Years Eve?

Celebrating the New Year is not a modern tradition. This history begins with the Babylonians hosting festivities that lasted for days to mark the first New Moon after the First day of spring each year. But you have to keep in mind that the calendar in which modern humanity uses has changed over the years through the whims of different rulers.

It was not until Julius Caesar developed the Julian calendar that the days began to coincide with modern festivities. Over the centuries festivities have marked the end of the old year with the birth of a new year. Each culture has had different ways of celebrating this rebirth.

What are New Years Eve cruises?

New Years Eve cruises are exactly as the name implies. It is a cruise aboard a ship that is out to sea or in port on New Years Eve. Most cruise lines are operational during this time period and offer package deals for families and individuals wanting to ring in the New Year in a different manner than the typical party.

Cruise lines may have a ball or some type of party that fits in with any traveler’s desire. You can elect to cruise the Mediterranean or the Caribbean waters. The choice is completely up to you but make sure you book your trip in advance because space fills up quickly.

How far in advance should I make New Years Eve plans?

If you have been invited to a party at a nearby destination or friend’s house you will want to RSVP quickly as a courtesy to the host or hostess. If you intend to book a package deal, travel abroad or take a cruise you will want to book your vacation as far in advance as possible to avoid the rush.

This is especially true if you are flying. Some hotels offer last minute packages to sell out unused rooms but you do not want to count on this as part of your determining factors in where to go. It is best to have your New Years Eve plans in place at least by Christmas. I have young children and they cannot be awake until midnight. What can I do to celebrate the New Years with them?

Many parents of young children fool their kids into thinking midnight has arrived by setting the clocks forward. You can turn the channel to a television station in another part of the world that is on a different time zone.

Most small children do not realize the difference between nine o-clock and midnight. If you feel uncomfortable with the deception then just explain to them that they are not old enough to stay up until midnight.

Children under the age of seven will fall asleep before reaching the magic hour. You can let them try to stay up as late as they can and chances are they will have the time of their lives just with that extra bit of freedom from a regularly scheduled bedtime.

Are there inexpensive parties and trips for New Years Eve?

If you cannot afford a trip out of area there are usually many local parties in your neck of the country. Local country clubs, hotels and resorts often have New Years Eve festivities. Some airlines and travel agents have last minute deals to popular resorts.

It is always better to make arrangements before New Years Eve but if you cannot there is always the possibility of last minute packages that become available due to cancellation. You will have to stay diligent but you can have a great time ringing in the New Year.

The Coolest Halloween Costume Ideas For Two – Matching Costumes Made Easy

General Comments Off
SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA - OCTOBER 31: A young boy p...
Image by Getty Images via Daylife

So this Halloween, why don’t you and your friend wear matching Halloween Costumes. It’s a great idea and lots of fun. Here are three of the coolest Halloween costumes ideas for two. They are creative, easy and simple. I Hope that they inspire you.

Grapes & Wine: Squash me if you don’t think this is the coolest Halloween Costume for two ever. And wait till you get to the face painting, its loads of fun too.

Grapes, you’ll need to pick a colour – green or purple. And then go shopping for a long-sleeved body suit, extra-thick tights, and a pair of stockings, a ski hat and a big bag of green or purple balloons. Once you’re all dressed in purple, or green, have fun with the face paint. Don’t go near the hair spray though. If you have a little help, you won’t need to spray your hair green. Take the top of a pair of stockings and make yourself a stocking hat. Throw on your felt hat and start attaching your balloons.

Wine, get ready to be in a box. Go pick up a large box from the grocery shop, and a carton of wine. Invite a few friends over, open the wine and get that carton box painted white. Then take the empty wine carton, rinse it out and flatten it! You’ll want to glue the wine carton onto your freshly painted carton box (once it’s properly dried, of course). Or you may pick an easy wine label to duplicate and get out the paintbrushes or use the paint software on your computer and get creative. Then cut out holes for your head and arms. And finally, tape a bag of purple colour liquid to the front of the box. You can always pick up some sparkling ribena, attach a tube, and go around offering free samples.

Bonnie & Clyde: For this Cool Halloween Costume for Two, a trip to the thrift shop is a great idea. Just Google for pictures of the pair, and make sure you take a few pictures of them with you when you shop.

Bonnie will want one blond wig, one black dress, a few longer, loopy necklaces and some fish-net stockings. A stretchy black headband, which can be accessorized with black sequins and white feathers, will go well with it. Put on a fake diamond ring, some high heels and see if you can find one of those old-fashioned ritzy cigarette holders.

Clyde: You need an old-fashioned suit, one black derby hat and a watch chain that gets pinned to the insides of the trouser pockets. Then add a fake moustache. And get ready for your heist.

The Crayola Crayons: This is a charming Halloween Costume for two where you’re unlikely to be asked who you are. Each Crayola needs to do the following: Pick a colour – be it pink, or blue or green, or maybe yellow’s your colour. Then two pairs of thick black stockings, cheap white runners, one white bed sheet, and a few cans of spray paint (black and whatever colour your Crayola is). You’ll also want one box of Crayola crayons so that you can get the logo. Start by making a cone-shaped hat out of cardboard. Then cut your sheet so that it’s about the size of a medium-sized towel. Now spray paint the sheets with the Crayola logo, your shoes and hat.

When you’re ready to get into your Crayola costume, start with the tights. Put one pair of tights on as tights. Use the other pair for the arms. This involves cutting a hole in the tights for your head. You might then want to wear a mini-shirt or jean shorts before you put on the sheet. Now wrap the sheet around you and fasten it at the back with a few safety pins.

Then fasten your hat on with some string, put on some white socks as gloves and your newly spray-painted runners.

Happy Halloween! And enjoy your Cool Halloween Costumes for Two.

And remember, the true test of whether your couple costume is cool or not is if you get separated from your other half at the Halloween Party and people come up to you and say, “Didn’t you come with…?”

Twilight Party Ideas For Tweens and Teens

General Comments Off
WESTWOOD, CA - NOVEMBER 17: Writer Stephenie ...

Twilight Party Ideas are here! Are you as into Twilight as I am? I love the books Stephanie Meyer has written. The characters, the plot, everything about them thrills me. I know lots of Tweens and teenagers are into the Twilight craze that is sweeping the nation too

If your child has read all the books in the saga and has seen the movie too…why not use a Twilight birthday party theme for their next birthday. I’ll bet they will jump for joy when you suggest it Mom. It’s an easy party theme to plan and decorate for.

Twilight Invitations

Twilight party invitations can be as simple as printing a bookmark from an online site and writing the information on the back…Who, What, When, Where…and not only will your guests have an invite, they will have a bookmark too. There are lots more ideas out there so visit some party sites online if you’d like a more detailed invitation.

Twilight Party Decorations

Party decorations for a Twilight party are easy to plan and to purchase. If you have a large decorating budget you can buy cutouts. These are life size stand ups of Edward and Bella, and they come in a few other characters too. Won’t that be an amazing site for your party guests to see. Imagine their shock when they see Edward or Bella standing in the party room.

The cutouts are a fun party idea but they’re not right for everyone. You can print out some pictures of the cast of Twilight and put them into picture frames and scatter them about the room. You can get tiny lights in black or red and decorate with them. You can even stand the books around the room. The main colors on the books are red and black and those colors would make for quite a dramatic decorating touch.

You can find magazines with the stars of the movie on the covers and spread them about the room too. Anything with Edward, Bella, anyone from the Cullen family and Jacob will help to set the mood.

Twilight Party Game Ideas
You can play games that relate to the movie. Twilight trivia is a fun party game, but the kids today really know their trivia so be sure to have a couple sets of trivia questions. Make the second one more difficult than the first so it’s a challenge to everyone.

Another fun game idea is Twilight bingo. Make bingo cards and use stickers or write character names in each of the boxes. Write down each word or sticker you use on small pieces of paper. Fold the paper up and put it in a bowl. These papers will serve as your bingo balls! Have the caller pick one and read it, while the players cross off their boards.Fill fortune cookies with twilight quotes, or read off a quote and let’s see if anyone knows who said it. Almost everything can be made into a game.

You might decide that a party in your house is not exactly what you are looking for, so bring your daughter or son and your party guests to the theater to watch the movie. Stop on the way home for some pizza and birthday cake. This is a nice way to let the kids enjoy themselves, have a night out and not have to clean up any messes.

I love to be easy on myself, especially when it means I get to go out and enjoy myself! If you or your child have not read the Twilight Saga, the books might be a great birthday present idea.

Christmas Party Games — Children’s Celebrations!

LONDON, ENGLAND - AUGUST 08: Emine Mehmet, a ...

Hosting a children’s Christmas party for your child or class? Aah, the fun, the games and the noise, noise, noise! Hosting a Christmas party for a gaggle of kids can be a stressful affair. Children eagerly awaiting Santa’s visit and caught up in the excitement of the holiday season can be a handful but a well thought-out party plan will save the day and your sanity.

Help! Be sure to have help on hand. Other parents or teachers can help keep the kids contained and the party events moving along in orderly fashion. If this is a school party, solicit parent volunteers to bring the refreshments. No need for anything fancy, cookies or cupcakes and punch will please any kid. Keep the decorations simple too. Remember that what goes up must come down. Keeping it simple makes for easy clean-up. String a little tinsel here and there; some red & green balloons and you’ve got instant kid party atmosphere!

Plan the fun! Children love playing games, so give them what they want. Christmas party games are a great way to keep them entertained and the party under control. There are a number of games that your group will love from the wee little ones to the older kids. Keep the game selection easy by using previously designed games printable from any computer. Here’s a sampling that you might find appropriate for your party:

Pin the Star on the Christmas Tree The Christmas version of the all time favorite kids’ game! You print the tree and the star, tack tree to a wall and the kids try to pin the star on the tree blindfolded. Kids love playing this game over and over.

Christmas Lost and Found Children match a picture only game card to the matching picture on the “lost” items sheet. The perfect game for kids who can’t read & those who can! A Christmas game for kids of all ages!

Christmas Trivia for Kids Just for the kids! Players will have fun trying to answer questions about Santa’s reindeer, Frosty the Snowman, the Grinch and other children’s favorite holiday interests. A fun kids Christmas game sure to produce giggles!

Santa’s Nose & Toes Given these fun little word clues, see who can figure out the names of these common parts of Santa Clause! Great for the wee little ones. Kids love this Christmas game!

Reindeer Mix Up! Santa has his reindeer’s names all mixed up! Who can un-mix this jumble of letters to come up with all the reindeer names and then figure out who’s missing? A certain reindeer song will help the kids with this Christmas game!

Holiday Word Finds Great for the older children. How many Christmas words can be found in a jumble of letters? Choose from traditional Christmas words or holiday terms that are nonreligious (great for the school Christmas party).

Holiday Crosswords Christmas crosswords are fun for young and old! Family members can solve this together. Great for classroom parties or any holiday get together!

For quieter sit-down activities creating crafts or food items is a great choice. Pre-baked cookies in Christmas shapes are great fun to decorate with a variety of colored icings and sprinkles. How about a gingerbread house party that all the kids participate in decorating? Making Christmas ornaments or cards is also a lot of fun. With glitter, fun shapes, colored makers and Christmas style stickers, the kids are sure to enjoy themselves.

In true Peanuts fashion, why not host a decorate-the-tree party? Inexpensive lights, tinsel and homemade ornaments make a memorial event to mark the season for the kids. Perhaps they can decorate their own classroom tree or a tree to be donated to a local nursing home or hospital.

Is it early in the Christmas season? Perhaps a letter-to-Santa party would fit the bill. Children become very prolific when writing to his holiday holiness which is great fun to read. Copying the letters would be a wonderful parting gift for the parents too. Perhaps a collection of the funniest ones for a future book? Have a big red Santa bag or mail bag and envelops marked with the North Pole address. When complete, the letters are collect for special delivery. When complete, the letters are collect for special delivery.

Don’t forget a visit from Santa. Maybe a jolly volunteer will don the famous red suit to bring the little ones a little Christmas magic. A visit from his jolliness is sure to be an event not soon forgotten.

There you have it, a fun and stress-free Christmas party for your children or class. No matter what party theme or Christmas party games you choose, be sure to enjoy yourself too. Children have a way of making the magic of the holiday season come alive. Make sure you take the time to catch it!

Easy Christmas Party Games, Plans & Ideas

HIMMELPFORT, GERMANY - NOVEMBER 16: A man dre...

Christmas party games and ideas are easy to plan with a festive mindset. Think fun! Whoever is heading to your house for the holidays, make it a Christmas to remember. These ideas are a breeze to plan and will inspire the joys of the season for you and your guest to share.

With all the hype and consumerism that has taken over the pleasure of Christmas, don’t forget that nothing can replace the joys of a simple celebration at home with close friends and family. Think of Christmas past – the smell of fresh baked goods, the sparkling luminous tree, Christmas carols playing on the stereo, much talking and laughter throughout the house. This is the stuff of a true Christmas where the joys of the season can be found. It is also the simplest of celebrations to plan.

The smell of fresh baked goods coming out of the oven is an irresistible holiday memory. Even the family “scrooge” can’t resist the temptation to indulge in Christmas treats and sweets. Don’t spend all your time baking, a simple cookie recipe or two is all it will take to get your guests into the kitchen. Consider a holiday baking party with a few close friends, everyone shares their best Christmas cookie. How about a cookie decorating party? Cookie decorating is fun for kids, big kids and kids at heart. These recipes will bring the joys to your kitchen:

White Rolled Christmas Cookies

– 1 c. powdered sugar
– 1 tsp. cream of tartar
– 1 tsp. soda
– 1 c. butter (margarine may be used)
– 2 c. flour
– 1 egg, well beaten
– 1 tsp. vanilla
– 1 tsp. almond extract, if desired

Roll out dough a cut with cookie cutters. Dough can be rolled and re-rolled as often as necessary for cutting desired shapes. Frost with favorite powdered sugar icing and decorate. Also may be rolled in balls and pressed flat to 1/4 inch. Bake at 300 to 350 degrees for 8 minutes.

Christmas Fruitcake Cookies

– 1 c. butter, softened
– 1-1/2 c. sugar
– 2 eggs
– 2-1/2 c. flour
– 1/2 tsp. salt
– 1 tsp. baking soda
– 1 tsp. cinnamon
– 2 (8 oz.) pkgs. pitted dates, chopped
– 3 c. pecans, chopped
– 1 (8 oz.) pkg. candied pineapple, chopped
– 1 (8 oz.) pkg. candied cherries, quartered

Cream butter and sugar. Add eggs, beat well. Add dry ingredients and mix well. Add the rest. Drop on lightly greased cookie sheet. Bake at 375 degrees for 13 minutes.

How about Christmas movie night or nights. A great past time for families who want to create a holiday tradition to do every year. There are a number of wonderful holiday movies that will become family favorites. Try some of these for your family holiday movie night:

– It’s a Wonderful Life (1946) – The top all time favorite every year as George escapes the clutches of evil Mr. Potter and realizes he’s the richest man in town. Thanks, Clarence.

– Miracle on 34th Street (1947) – Did Macy’s just hire the real Santa Claus? Hearts young and old still melt as Maureen O’Hara (and a very young Natalie Wood) finally see that “faith is believing in things when common sense tells you not to.”

– A Christmas Story (1983) – Ralphie schemes and dreams his way to his one and only Christmas wish, the official Red Ryder air rifle.

– A Christmas Carol (1951) – The all-time best version of the Dickens classic starring Alister Sim as Scrooge and a definite must for any holiday DVD collection.

– The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993) – Tim Burton’s original stop-motion masterpiece about a bunch of ghouls who just don’t get Christmas “…and they call him Sandy Claws!”

– The Santa Clause (1994) – Comedian Tim Allen’s only successful big screen performance to date as a hapless divorced dad begins to put on weight and grows a long white beard.

– Polar Express (2004) – On track to becoming a classic with Tom Hanks as the conductor on the early morning run to the North Pole.

Nothing says Christmas like Christmas carols. The tried and true classics are still the favorites. How about a tradition of caroling with family and friends. A rousing rendition of “Deck the Halls” is sure to get your group and your neighbors in the holiday mood. This list of carols are perfect for your caroling adventure:

– The 12 Days of Christmas
– Christmas Tree
– Come All Ye Faithful
– God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen
– Tattenbaum
– Hark The Herald Angels Sing
– Silent Night
– The First Noel
– It Came Upon A Midnight Clear
– We Wish You A Merry Christmas
– Jingle Bells
– Joy To The World
– Three Kings

Create some holiday magic with your family and friends The scents, sounds and traditions from seasons past makes a great backdrop for a season of festivities, laughter and fun. Start a few new traditions your gang will want to do year after year. A bit of planning and a lot of love will create traditions enjoyed by the young and the young-at-heart. A little Christmas party games and fun will make the season merry bright and memorable. Happy holidays!

Tips on Corporate Christmas Party Games

General Comments Off
WASHINGTON - DECEMBER 4: 'Santa Claus' appea...
Image by Getty Images via Daylife

Everyone will look forward to the company Christmas party when you make plans to include these corporate Christmas party games!

Oh Come All Ye

When you need Christmas office party games that will not only allow guests to mingle but will also give them something to talk about, then how about giving this one a try?

Before the party, come up with several item categories.

At game’s end, guests will be grouped into these categories so aim to have 3-5 guests per group (for small office parties) or as many as 20 each (for larger corporate gatherings). Within each category you’ll need several items that fit the description.

Here are a few examples:

* Christmas song titles: “Jingle Bells,” “Santa Claus is Coming to Town,” “The First Noel,” “Silent Night,” “Away in a Manger”

* Christmas sweets: candy canes, sugar cookies, chocolate-covered cherries, ribbon candy, chocolate orange

* Christmas dinner: ham, turkey, yams, cranberry sauce, stuffing

* Christmas decorations: lights, tree, ornaments, garland, candles

Write all of the items on slips of paper without indicating their categories, but do keep a master list of all of the items and categories to avoid confusion later.

To play the game, have participating employees and guests draw a slip of paper from a Christmas stocking as they enter. Once everyone has arrived, explain that they each hold one item in an unnamed category.

During the office party, their task is to talk to other guests to determine both their category and which partygoers share the same group. The first group to find all of its members and correctly guess the category wins the prize!

Christmas Ornament Bowling

If you’re looking for corporate Christmas party games that will have guests on their feet and cheering, this one is right up your alley! Christmas ornament bowling is full of unpredictable fun, and the built in comedy of rolling ornaments is a guaranteed ice breaker!

Setting up this game is easy. Use rolls of wrapping paper to make a lane to keep wayward ornaments from wandering too far out of line. Set up bowling “pins” at one end; miniature Christmas trees are the perfect accent for this holiday party game!

To play, collect several ornaments of various shapes – as long as they will roll (and not necessarily in a straight line), any shape will do. For safety reasons, avoid ornaments made from glass or those which are otherwise fragile. Have guests take turns rolling the ornaments down the lane. Award one point for each knocked over tree or pin, and the player with the most points wins.

This game is fabulous because it works for parties of any size, whether you need corporate Christmas party games for 10 employees or 100. Simply set up more lanes for bigger crowds and let the good times roll!

An office Christmas party doesn’t have to be dull just because it’s a corporate event. In fact, you can make this year’s one of the most memorable yet when you put some of these corporate Christmas party games to work for you!

What Are Recommended Halloween Party Games?

General Comments Off
SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA - OCTOBER 31: A young boy p...
Image by Getty Images via Daylife

For a novice event planner, nothing is more daunting than the question, “Mom, can I have a Halloween party?” There are Halloween decorations, costumes, recipes and activities to plan, which can be a big task. To throw the best party, try to keep the group small (10 is ideal) and organize Halloween fun games. Whether you’re planning for a teenager, a pre-teen or a young child, there are a number of fun and affordable games to keep the entertainment rolling!

Halloween party games for younger kids can range from silly Halloween fun and getting-to-know-you games, to spooky ghost story telling and puzzle solving. An easy first game is “The Name Game,” where index cards with monster or Halloween character names written on them are affixed to the back of each guest.

Then the person asks another guest “yes or no” questions until the right answer is guessed. Some kids love “pumpkin golf,” which is a homemade golf game made out of a cardboard ramp, a carved pumpkin with an extremely large smile and a mini-golf set. “Ghost hunter” scavenger hunts always go over well for grade school children.

First wrap lollipops up like ghosts using white tissue paper and a black magic marker. Then hide them around the house and write clues about where they could be. To make it more competitive, create teams, such as “the witches,” “the goblins” or “the werewolves,” and have each team race back to place their lollipops into a bin as they find them, awarding a special prize to the winning team.

Or you may want to put a letter on each ghost that will form ten different Halloween words and award prizes as the kids guess them. You can also turn on “The Monster Mash” and have kids dance like monsters, freezing when the music is stopped. This will definitely have them cackling at the Halloween fun! Check out “Party Game Central” for more do-it-yourself ideas.

If you’d rather buy a few games than make them, then here are some Halloween party suggestions. Little kids will love the “Halloween Role Play Game,” which can be purchased for $4.99 at Oriental Trading and plays up to six kids. The game includes a 10″ spinner, 6 each of 8 assorted character cards, 6 “surprise” cards and instructions.

They’ll spin, pick a card and do an action, such as making bump sounds with their feet, talking like Frankenstein, doing the Monster Mash and acting like they’ve been zapped! Oriental Trading also has “Halloween Bend Game,” which is an awesome seasonal version of Twister that kindergartners to teenagers will love!

“Color Your Own Halloween Bingo” is another great game you can purchase for almost any age. “Inflatable Halloween Limbo” or the “Inflatable Spider Ring Toss Game” are sure to add Halloween fun to your child’s party. Ouija Boards are always creepy Halloween fun for teens. “Halloween Jenga” may be more your speed, with red and black blocks, custom rules and a special glow-in-the-dark die.

If you roll a “pumpkin,” then the direction of play is reversed; roll a “haunted house” and remove any piece or roll a “bat” and you can only remove an orange block. The Harry Potter “Scene It” DVD game is another fun one, testing kids of ages 8 and up with trivia from the Harry Potter movies.

One of the best Halloween Party games for adults is the “murder mystery dinner.” Each party member will receive an advance invitation with instructions on the role they’ll be playing. In your kit, you’ll receive instructions on Halloween recipes to cook, what Halloween decorations to set up and even how to dress.

Usually, character booklets, scripts and CD or DVDs will guide you through the plot to discover whodunnit. A few recommended murder mystery games include: “Lethal Luau Murder Mystery Party Game” with a Hawaiian theme, “A Taste for Wine and Murder” with a Hollywood theme or “A Murder on the Grill” with a summer of 1950s theme. All are from Bepuzzled.
