Naturally, the indoor games should be engaging and enjoyed by all of the partygoers. However, it is important to bear in mind that many games that can be played inside can be subtly used to develop our offsprings’ life skills.
Interaction and cooperating
Games where the attendees have to cooperate with the others are better than games where the girls are acting alone. Permitting interaction gets the partygoers to hone their skills of social interaction. Further, it is worth bearing in mind that games similar to ‘show and tell’ are a brilliant method of honing the attendees’ sharing skills.
However, it is important to include a variety of games to add variety and develop different skills. Plus, if the games are not fun, the partygoers will not play them and therefore won’t develop skills or have a good time. If the games are enjoyed, you’ll be able to have a relaxing time, and therefore enjoy the party as well yourself.
When to play the indoor party games?
Indoor party games can be played even when it is sunny outside. They are a great way to focus the kids’ attention in a smaller environment, permitting you to explain what the party involves, when the food will be served, when the party cake will be available and the stipulations.
An excellent idea for the start of the party is to include a few games to let everyone feel at ease and get to know each other like the classic, ‘charades’, ‘guess what emotion i’m acting’ and ‘guess who i’m singing like’. If the kids don’t know each other, stickers with everyone’s name on will help everyone know who everyone else is.

Playing the games just before food becomes available is an excellent way of settling the kids before they eat. In addition, the theme may make indoor party games more suited than outdoor games.
Sorts of party games to be played inside
Party games that are played indoors don’t need to be quiet, sit-down affairs. Some should be boisterous and flamboyant. This hones the attendees’ skills of conducting themselves in an indoors environment without breaking things(!); however it might be a good idea to remove any precious breakables before the party because accidents can occur!
Ideas for indoor games
Traditional indoor party games would include the ever-popular ‘musical chairs’ and ‘statues’. Further, good old ‘hide and seek’ is an excellent idea if your house has some good hiding places.
My kids love playing ‘tag in slowmotion’ which is basically a game of tag, but with everyone chasing and speaking in slow motion; it helps to ensure nothing gets made in need of repair!
‘Pass the parcel’ is a classic, though we mix it up a little so that everyone but one of the girls has a wrapped parcel. On the music stopping, the girl who does not hold a parcel is given all of the treats under that layer of wrapping from everyone else. This is always a success!
My children love holding ‘dance-offs’ and ‘sing-offs’; but, again, we adapt the rules to ensure everyone feels involved. If some of the partygoers do not like dancing or singing, we let them perform their personal skill, and everyone gets a vote as to who wins the round.
You could include a few ‘craft games’ (for example competing to decorate a cookie to make it look like the nastiest cookie ever made) or dress-up games (for example competing to dress-up like a specific person – some old curtains are excellent for this, as are random clothes you can pick up for next to nothing at charity stores).
‘Card games’ are always popular too; ‘Uno’ is always a lot of fun and ‘snap’ never goes out of style (particularly with a large group).
However, the clear winner with my daughters are ‘role-playing games’. These range from fancydress parties along a specified theme, to getting all the partygoers to develop a character in advance of the party and having everyone else guess it at the party. Play-acting helps to develop their creativity and imaginations, and is something I can’t recommend enough.

There are many indoor party games that you can use. Trying to get the children involved in providing suggestions ensures they all have fun. You’re not restricted to the traditional indoor games, because the rules of usually outdoor games can be amended (by you and/or the kids) to be transformed into indoor party games.
