New Years Eve Party

There is nothing quite like the excitement of planning a New Years Eve party. It is surely going to be a memorable event no matter if you are celebrating at party venues in London or in the comfort of your own home. There are a few things to keep in mind when planning your party and if you get a head start on the preparations, then you will save yourself a lot of headaches and stress later down the line.

A New Years Eve party is not complete without a guest list. Keep in mind that many people make their plans for this special occasion several weeks or even months in advance. The city venues on this special day play an important factor as well.

Some cities have very elaborate fireworks displays and New Years Eve hotel deals that require people to register very early. When planning a party in the comfort of your home, you will want to send out the invitations, at a minimum, the first week of December.

Yes, this is a time of year when most people are sending out greeting cards, but you want to plan your guest list early. Always include an RSVP card and follow up with phone calls and emails to confirm attendance.

The next step to planning your New Years Eve party is deciding on if you will have a theme. Some people enjoy having theme or masquerade parties. It adds a festive quality to the special event of ringing in a brand new year. Besides the idea of a theme party, you will also need to determine if you will be serving alcohol.

If there is alcohol served, then you want to either arrange for guests to stay the night or arrange for taxi service. The most important factor is never allowing a person to drive when they have consumed an alcoholic beverage. This should be a time for festivities, not tragedies.

Keep the menu simple. Everyone should have fun and this includes you. Finger foods are an excellent way to allow guests to mingle and have scrumptious appetizers that do not require sitting down to eat.

Most parties include alcohol, but you also want to provide plenty of non-alcoholic drinks for those who are designated drivers or do not believe in imbibing. Travel New Years Eve is about arriving safe and sound, so once again, make sure there are designated drivers or sleeping arrangements for people who will be staying with you. This factor cannot be reiterated enough.

New Years Eve is a big event. The New Year’s ball in Times Square will be making its drop. It is a brand new ball that will slowly show the world that New York has jumped into the New Year. Others will follow and even within your home New Years Eve party, merrymaking will be occurring as people blow their horns, twirl their tassels and get ready to greet the New Year.

Traditionally, New Years Eve parties were focused on couples only. Fortunately, not anymore! It is also not as exclusively formal as in previous decades. It is much more common to include the whole family and singles in the celebration as well. Alcohol, no alcohol, anything and everything goes these days.

Decorate with black, silver, and gold. Go all out with feather boas and top hats. Don’t forget the noisemakers and party poppers to bring in the New Year.

Here are some fun activity ideas to bring in the New Year:

  • Resolutions Roast. Give each guest a turn roast their resolution for 2006. It is usually related to some sort of weight loss or self-improvement idea. For example, say “goodbye (name) and hello to a lighter, tighter me!”
  • Costume or masquerade party. Don a mask and be a lady or gent of mystery!
  • New Years around the world. Have guests bring dishes that reflect their ethnicities and countries of origin.
  • Murder mystery party. Purchase murder mystery scripts or use a local murder mystery company to host the event.
  • Create a time capsule to be opened in five years. Include some of 2005 items and a questionnaire about what they think it will be in 2010. Make a video of the party to include in her time capsule.
  • Board games or card game championships
  • Take a day cruise on a local body of water.
  • Hire a bellydancer or salsa dancer to give lessons and give the guests a little spice for in their lives. Everyone will have a good laugh as they try out their new skills!
  • Hold a couple’s party and play the Newlywed Game to see who’s most in tune with each other.
  • Gambling on a winner? Choose a casino night for an easy to put together bachelorette party.
  • Is a happy and prosperous year in the cards? Use a fortune telling theme complete with palm readings and crystal balls.
  • Go out dancing at the host’s favorite club.

Drop balloons at midnight and toast your friends and family!

Twilight Birthday Party – New Moon Birthday Party

General Comments Off
New Moon (novel)
Image via Wikipedia

The Twilight book series by Stephanie Meyer have been a huge success with tween and teen girls. What better way to celebrate the birthday than a New Moon or Twilight themed party? Here are some ideas to make it happen.

First, you will need cool party invitations . You can print off color copies of the book covers, characters or posters from the movie to use on the front of your handmade invitations. Using your computer fonts, you can either write the invitation in calligraphy style handwriting like Edward would use:

The Cullen family cordially invites you to attend a party in the honour of

(Try a font called Edwardian script)

Alternatively, you can use a handwritten scrawl like Bella would write to inform your guests as to place and time. An example would be:

OK – I really hate parties, but Alice is making me invite everyone

One additional possibility would be to write it like Jacob – crossing out lines and re-writing them until you get the invitation right.

For instance – you could write:

The bloodsucker invites you to

The leech is having a party for…

Bring a jacket – it will be cold

You will need to decide if it is a general Twilight/New Moon party theme – or if guests choose/are put on teams. You can have team Edward vs. Team Jacob.

Next, you will need party food . You can offer guests ‘blood’ to drink, but putting tomato juice in a non-transparent cup with a straw. You could also make a red fruit punch – add extra ice before guests come so it is extra cold or slushy. Hot dogs would be good – roasting them like on the beach in La Push – would be even better. Make cookies that look like dog biscuits.

Decorations. You can make them ahead of time, or have everyone participate. You can let everyone design posters, and have prizes for the best ones. If you want to make the decorations yourself, let everyone make their own t-shirt, which can be their ‘loot-bag’ take home gift.

Posters and t-shirts could read:

  • Team Jacob
  • Team Edward
  • Team Cullen Fastball
  • La Push Diving Team
  • Forks, WA
  • Meanwhile, in a little known town called Spoons…
  • Cullen Drive
  • My neck belongs to Edward
  • Bite Me – Edward Cullen
  • Jacob Can Be My Alpha
  • I was pale before Twilight made it popular
  • Who’s Afraid of the Big Bad Wolf? (Jacob)
  • I like my guys cool and sparkly
  • La Push Motorcycle Club

Guests can also make up their own ideas. Have plenty of markers, paint or fabric paint, sparkles, gel pens, etc. It is a good idea to have scrap paper so kids can make a rough copy before they do their good one.

Activities . Kids can learn vampire hip hop dances, play truth or dare, or Twilight trivia. Having them dress up or act out their favourite scenes from the movies or books. You can video tape the enactments and play them back at the end of the night, or send them home with a copy on DVD.

5 Fun and Haunting Twilight Party Games For a New Moon Party

General Comments Off
Jacob Black
Image via Wikipedia

Many fans were looking forward to the Premiere of New Moon. The movie is the second film adaptation of the Twilight Series by Stephenie Meyer. In New Moon, Bella and her vampire boyfriend Edward face a new snag or two in their relationship. Edward is convinced by near fatal incident at his home that the vampire world and their relationship are too dangerous for Bella.

So he pretends that he doesn’t love her and leaves Forks. Bella is devastated and looks to her friend Jacob Black for comfort. Ironically it seems that Jacob is a supernatural being himself and the danger that Edward wants to protect her from will come from an unexpected source. As a fan many will celebrate by having a Twilight themed party. Here are some interesting games you and your guests can play as entertainment.

Any good Twilight fan worth their salt is good at Twilight trivia. A good party game is to have a trivia game like Who Wants to Be a Millionaire. Have prizes for winners who prove to be adept at knowing about all things Twilight. You can also use other game show formats that may be more fitting for your guests.

In the series vampires are known to movie at superhuman speeds. Unfortunately many people can’t do that. You can imitate it though with a game of flashlight tag. You can make the game interesting by having guests split up in groups. You can also try a flashlight tag version of capture the flag. This will give you some very fun ways to imitate vampires.

Another game you can play is Truth or Dare. In New Moon we find out that Jacob is part of tribe of werewolves. One of their interesting traits is that everyone can share each other’s minds constantly so everyone knows each other’s deepest secrets. So play a game of truth of dare with questions based off of similar situations in New Moon and Twilight. This will prove to be an interesting game as you see how much of their secrets they are willing to share.

Vampires also have a keen sense of hearing and an awareness of their surroundings. Another great game idea is to play Twilight red light green light. Pick someone as the individual who will call out red light and green light. Just like a traffic signal, the caller say green light everyone else playing can move towards him. If the caller calls red light then the players have to freeze in position and stay that way. Otherwise, they will be disqualified. The twist lies in that the caller is blindfolded and must rely on hearing and other senses to be know when players are approaching. The first person to reach the caller will be the winner.

You can also look to more traditional games like Bingo. Have Bingo cards made with images of characters in the movie. Then have an old fashioned game of bingo. The first person to get all five characters in a row and call out Bingo will be the winner. This is just one of many simple Twilight games that you can play at your party.

You will find many of the suggested games to be great ways to entertain friends and make your party a more likely success.

“Nosey” or “Nose Game” is another good family game which always provides a lot of fun for everybody parents and children alike. It is a favorite at family parties.

After this teasing game and the well-known, hilarious “Costume Race”, it is well to give your guests a breathing spell. Ask the youngsters to sit on the floor while you tell them a Halloween story. Assign to each youngster a character which appears in the story. Whenever one’s character is mentioned in the story, he makes the sounds assigned to him. The storyteller should pause a moment after a character is mentioned in the story. You’ll probably have more guests than characters in the story but two or more can be assigned to the same character. It doesn’t lessen the fun a bit.

The “Cat Game” will give your guests a real thrill. It’s a must at our family parties on Halloween night. All lights are dimmed. Big and little guests sit on the floor in a circle, a sheet spread in the center. Each one takes hold of the sheet with his left hand and keeps his right hand free under the sheet. The hostess appears holding a tray covered with a napkin and says in a solemn voice:
“This evening when the Halloween cat was on the way to our party it was run over. His remains will now be passed around under the sheet. This is the cat’s eye just pass it to your neighbor and so on around the circle under the sheet.” The hostess reaches under the sheet to hand the first person an icy oyster, to be followed by the head a ball of yarn filled with hairpins; tail a coon tail from a child’s cap; teeth a string of large beads, chilled; hide a brushed wool helmet; tongue a very cold watermelon pickle; insides a bunch of soft dough, well floured. The shrieks accompanying this game are hairs rising.

Great Games of Halloween Party

Make your Halloween party a hit and rollicking with your friends club with these Halloween party games. Check out great games for Halloween party.

While you are clearing the table and pushing it out of the way let your guests try this stunt. Hang a string from the center of a doorway. On it fasten a short stick or cane so that it remains parallel to the floor. From one end of the stick suspend a ripe juicy apple. Spin the cane merry-go-round fashion as fast as possible. Then let the first brave soul step close and try to bite the apple as it flies past. If he succeeds in biting the apple he will be, or is, lucky in matters of love. If he fails he’s very unlucky and will need considerable dusting off. It’s a hilarious game all your guests will be clamoring to play.

For a quieter game give each lady present a cup of wet pumpkin seeds and supply each man, young or old, with a threaded needle. As each lady hands the man a seed from her supply he threads it on a needle and runs it down the thread. If he drops the seed he must recover it before another seed can be threaded. The couple finishing the cup of seeds first wins the right to first try in the next game.

Line up on the table seven lighted candles. Ask a guest to stand six or eight feet from the table facing the candles. Then blindfold him and turn him completely around three times and tell him to walk to the table and blow three times at the candle flames. Allow him three blows and no more. If he blows out all the candles he will sell all his crops at a big profit. If he fails to blow out any he’ll have to store his grain. If 1, 2,3,4,5, or 6 candles are left burning they indicate the number of years before he will become rich.

This next game can be played by any number of people. Tie candy pumpkins or orange or black jelly beans to a string. Make each string about three feet long. Instruct each guest to put the free end of the string into his mouth and hold his hands behind his back. At a signal all start chewing. They continue to chew until someone gets his piece of candy in his mouth. He is declared winner. It is an exciting game to watch and equally funny to the players who have trouble to keep from laughing as they furiously chew.

While the following game is an old one it always makes a hit. The ladies are seated in chairs facing a circle. There is one extra chair. Behind every chair stands a man. All men stand stiffly with their hands at their sides. The man behind the empty chair is the Halloween cat. When the cat sees a lady he’d like to sit in his chair, he winks at her. She must slip away from her chair before the man at her back can restrain her by putting his hands on her shoulders. If she escapes her man becomes the cat. If she doesn’t, the cat must try another lady. This game is fun for all and takes quite a bit of time. Be careful not to play any game so long that the guests get tired of it. Quit each game while it is at its height and go on to the next game.

For the farewell game let the men join the women in a circle. Caution your guests that no one must laugh during this game. If he does he will be eliminated. The first player, looking solemn, says, “Ho” to the person on his right. That player then says, “Ho Ho” to the third person. He in turn says to the fourth, “Ho Ho Ho.” Each person with a straight face adds another “Ho.” Around the circle will go the “Ho Hos” until only one “sober-sides” remains? He will be the winner.
With a merry “Ho Ho” we wish you a jolly Halloween the night that a party is a must.

A game can be interesting and exciting as log as the kids enjoy it. But you should not forget to remember to set the time for each game in order to avoid the children getting tired of it.

Games for a Christmas Party

General Comments Off
DIY Christmas & Holiday Ornaments and Decorati...

Christmas is the moment of merry, fun and peace. It is the season full of cherry, merry, chilly and a like for all ages. Especially for children it is a high time for fun. Enjoy this party full of fun with your friends group. Check out the following lines for making the best Christmas party ever.

Since the Holiday season is a very special period of the year a party at this time is always more than welcome. The Christmas decorations which are still up save extra work and give the desired festive air. When entertainment and games have been carefully planned ahead of time the party goes off smoothly without long lapses of nothing to do. The following games have been tried out many times and are most entertaining.

A good way to start off is to hand each guest a pencil and four cards; one card with a band of brown across the top, another blue, another gray, and one of green. Each youngster is asked to list the names of the guests according to the color of their eyes. For instance if Johnny has brown eyes his name goes on the card topped with brown, etc. The youngsters greatly enjoy this game and have a lot of fun discovering the color of their friends’ eyes. It’s surprising to find how unobserving most of us are.

For a more active game divide your group into two or more teams, depending on the number of players. Line the teams up single file on one side of the room. Set a goal across the room. Mark a starting line. Give the leader of each line two smooth, medium-size buttons. One he places on the starting line, with the other he snaps the first one to the goal as soon as the signal is given. “Snapping” consists of pressing the edge of one button with the other in such a way that the under one flies ahead. As soon as the players reach goal they race back and hand the buttons to the second player in line. The line finishing first wins the relay.

After this rather hilarious game a quieter one called “Shopping” requires that all the children but one sit in a circle on the floor. The remaining one is the “shopper.” He stops before one of the seated group and says, “I’m going to Chicago. What can I buy?” He then counts to ten. Before he finishes counting the player before whom he is standing names three objects beginning with the letter “C,” as “cats, crossings, or caterpillars.” If he fails he must take the place of the shopper. Any city may be named by the shopper, but the articles to be bought must always begin with the first letter of the city named. The children are greatly amused by the weird assortment of objects they are supposed to buy.

Children always like relays. One that can be played in a small space is called “Over and Under.” The teams can be lined up as for the button snap game. The first player in each team is handed a bean bag or ball even a potato will do. When the signal is given he passes this object over his head to the second in line who passes it between his knees to the third who hands it over his head to the fourth. The object goes alternately overhead and between knees to the last one in line who then runs to the head of the line and starts it back over his head. The game proceeds until the line is back in its original order with the first player at its head. The line finishing first, of course, wins the race.

Another active game children enjoy is “Bounce,” which can be played with a rubber or tennis ball. Place a waste basket on a chair some distance from the wall. Mark a line about six feet back from the chair on which the player stands. The game is to bounce the ball on the floor so that it goes into the basket. Each one has three trials, as this is not as easy to do as it seems. A point is given for every basket made. After a given length of time points are counted to determine the winner.

After the games and before refreshments the children will enjoy singing Christmas carols, especially the old favorites, “Silent Night, Holy Night,” “The First Noel,” “O Little Town of Bethlehem” and “O Come All Ye Faithful.” Sandwiches and cocoa are always popular. These can be followed with apples, Christmas candies and nuts.

Children are greatly fascinated by shining stars, colorful balls, Christmas trees, lots of candies and lots more. They also expected all these to see in party place. Decorate your house with all these stuff and see new delightment in the eyes of your young part guest.
